The season may have only just ended, but Frickley Athletic have already started work on their pitch in preparation for the 2016-17 season.

Around 70 tonnes of sand has been delivered to add to the grass seed already at the SW Jackson Utilities Stadium and work is starting to spread the sand and re-seed the pitch.

In addition, this year the club are having the pitch verti drained and spiked. The purpose of verti draining and spiking is to allow oxygen into the root system and to provide a route for surface water to the drains. It also opens up and de-compacts the soil structure to allow oxygen in to feed the roots.

This is the fourth pre-season in a row in which Frickley has invested significant sums of money to improve the playing surface at Westfield Lane.

Following the club’s best season for the last 10 years, Frickley are giving fans the opportunity to bid for a genuine match worn home shirt.

Anyone wishing to bid can contact commercial manager Charlotte Graves with the shirt number they wish to bid on and the amount of their bid.

Charlotte can be contacted on 07834 688944 or by email on

The auction will close at midnight on Thursday, May 26.
