Hemsworth MW took another step closer to the Division One title in the Toolstation NCE League when they came back from Worsbrough Bridge Athletic with a 4-0 success on Tuesday night.

Wayne Benn’s men stretched their lead at the top to 14 points after taking control from the start and scoring two goals in each half.

Sam Jones sent them on the way after just 10 minutes with Dom Blair doubling the advantage.

Nick Guest and Nash Connolly netted after the break to round off another great win.

Hemsworth were denied full points in their game at home to Hallam last Saturday when they drew 2-2.

They looked in danger of a rare defeat when trailing to Micah Bishop’s goal in the opening minute of the second half. But Wells turned the game on its head as two goals in seven minutes from Cameron Clark and Shane Kelsey gave them a 2-1 lead going into the last 10 minutes.

However, Hallam, who are just outside the play-off places in seventh spot, kept battling and earned themselves a point with a second goal by Bishop three minutes from time.

Hemsworth now face one of the toughest games they have left this season when they travel to play free-scoring AFC Emley this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Emley are right in the thick of the promotion race in fourth place and have scored no less than 124 times in their 33 league games so far. They include in their ranks striker Ashley Flynn, who has notched an incredible 70 goals so Wells’ defence is gearing up for a big test from him and his team-mates.

With Hemsworth having notched 118 goals themselves a cracking contest looks in prospect between two great attacking sides.
