A JUNIOR swimmer from South Elmsall dived in and came out on top with four golds at a national competition.
Shannon Dodson, nine, scooped four out of five wins at the Nottingham junior open competition – and just missed another for the last race by one 10th of a second.
The grade A swimmer, who attends Ash Grove J&I School, is a member of the Minsthorpe Marlins, Askern Spa and Doncaster Dartes swimming clubs.
Proud mum Leanne Dodson, 33, said: “She’s only been competing for six months. I’m just amazed at how well she’s done.
“She’s been winning races ever since she started competing and is the best for her age group in Yorkshire.
“We travel everywhere to competitions to support her and I was coaching her by the side of the pool in Nottingham.
“Her nan is really proud of her too and promised to quit smoking because Shannon won four golds.”
The dedicated youngster, who learnt how to swim at Minsthorpe Baths when she was five, trains five times a week in Doncaster.
Dad Steve Dodson, 34, said: “She’s a great prospect for the future. In such a short time and at such an early age she has done really well, and will hopefully go onto greater things.”
