Family and friends took part in an It’s a Knockout competition to raise cash for little Kane Smith.

The group donned fancy dress and were sponsored to take part in various challenges as part of the event at Normanton Gala last weekend.

Four-year-old Kane – who also went along to the gala – has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and his family is aiming to raise £10,000 to take him on a trip to Disney World in Florida before his condition worsens.

Kane’s dad, Martin Smith, 31, of Holly Bank, Hemsworth, said: “We had a fantastic weekend with family and friends.Kane and his sister Kasey both really enjoyed it.”

Mr Smith also held a stall at the gala which, combined with the sponsor money, raised more than £450 towards the trip.

Kane will be wheelchair-bound before he reaches his teens and is only expected to live until his 20s.

Mr Smith added: “His condition isn’t visible yet. At the moment he can still walk and talk but soon these things will become harder for him to do and eventually impossible.

“I just want to give my son the best before it’s too late.”
