Wakefield MP Mary Creagh presented a petition of almost a quarter-of-a-million names to the HM Treasury this week calling for a tax on throwaway plastic.

Efforts are being made to cut down on the amount of single-use plastic, such as straws, cutlery and cups that end up littering streets, beaches and washing out to sea where they polluting oceans and harming marine wildlife.

People are still being urged to add their names to the petition which is online at you.38degrees.org.uk
