Soiled mattresses, broken furniture, wooden pallets, old carpet strips and general waste was found strewn near the entrance of the cemetery on Sugar Lane, in the Belle Vue area of the city, on Tuesday morning.

The mess was quickly cleared-up but not before a visitor took photos of the eyesore.

The 71-year-old admitted he was shocked by the mess.

He said: “I have got a relative in that graveyard, the last time I was in there was to bury my great aunt and I was just appalled to see it in that condition.

“I was taking my wife to where I lived and to see that someone has used it to fly tip across graves like that is very, very sad.

“It was right near the entrance. I have never seen anything like that.

“It should not be like that, it’s so disrespectful.”
