WAKEFIELD Council has applied for planning permission for the next stage of a £5.2m regeneration project in the West End area of Hemsworth.
If granted, it will involve the demolition of 201 homes, including removal of all foundation work and cellars, on Top Street, Town Street and Close Street.
The land will then be developed to provide new and affordable homes. The project will also improve 167 remaining properties with new boundary walls, central heating, insulation and double glazing.
It will provide better roads and footpaths, a safe route to school, an art-based gateway to the area and grant support for other improvements.
