Teenager arrested after female 'seriously assaulted' in Castleford

A teenager was arrested after a "serious assault" on a female in Castleford town centre.

The 18 year-old was detained by officers after intelligence from CCTV operatives working in the town.

The incident happened on July 2 this year, but has only now been made public in a report by Wakefield Council.

The report, written by the council's Cabinet member for communities, Maureen Cummings, said: "An 18 year-old male was arrested as a suspect for a serious assault on a female in Castleford town centre.

"When police officers circulated a description of the suspect CCTV operatives were already watching him and were able to lead them straight to him.

"The suspect was caught off guard when police drove straight to him and he was arrested."

No further details were given about the incident or what injuries the alleged victim sustained.
