A successful women’s football club is celebrating after winning December’s cash donation from the Asda Yorkshire XDC Community Fund.
Hemsworth Ladies FC picked up £100 from the fund, which is run in conjunction with the Express.
The club, which is based at the Hemsworth Miners’ Welfare Club in Fitzwilliam, runs two teams for 30 players aged from 15 to 45.
The women compete in the West Riding County Women’s Football League and the Sheffield and Hallamshire County Women’s Football League.
They will use the money to pay for referee fees and training fees.
Manager Kevin Conway said: “The funding will help us tremendously.
“Our members’ subscriptions pay for most of the referee and training fees but when matches and training are cancelled because of the bad weather then we struggle.
“The club has been a marvellous success, not only on the pitch, but off it as well.
“It is fantastic to see females enjoying what was once a male dominated environment.”
