PROUD South Elmsall parents could not have asked for a better Christmas present than their newborn baby boy.
Karlie Dockerty, 23, of Centre Street, was not due to be born until the middle of January but went into labour in the early hours of Christmas day morning.
And by 8am little Martin Junior was born at Pinderfields Hospital, weighing 6lbs 1oz.
Overjoyed dad, Tone Spencer, said it was a dream come true.
He said: “I just kept thinking ‘wow’. It still hasn’t really sunk in yet that he is here. It’s just amazing. It was the best Christmas present we could have asked for.”
Miss Dockerty said: “It was such a lovely surprise. I never dreamed he would be born so early, especially not on Christmas day. But Tone said all along it would happen on that day.”
The couple, who live on Centre Street, are also parents to two-year-old Crystal.
Crystal syas she already loves being a big sister to little Martin and has said she loves him very much.
The family were able to leave the hospital by 4pm to spend the rest of Christmas day with other members of the family.
They named the newborn after Mr Spencer’s friend Martin Barrett, from Hemsworth, who died 10 years ago.
Mr Spencer said: “We had been trying for a baby for around a year and we went along to a medium who told us Martin had come through.
“And he had told us Karlie was pregnant and that it would be a boy and we should name it after him.
“So we got a pregnancy test and sure enough she was pregnant.
“We couldn’t believe it. So we knew we had to name him after Martin.”
