Talented youngsters have danced their way to a number of trophies in a national contest.

Ellie Beaumont, eight, won the ballet and tap categories and Rosie Dickinson, 11, won the tap category in their respective age groups at the ‘UKA Theatre Performer of the Year 2013’ competition in Manchester.

The two youngsters also won trophies in the finals, along with Lucy Beaumont, Mackenzie Green, Isla Gratty, Saffron Broad, Rosie Dickinson, Mia Dickinson, Ollie Dickinson and Holly Hickin.

The youngsters all train at the Sugar Kane’s School of Dance, Barnsley Road, South Elmsall.

The school’s students also recently took part in their annual dance exams in ballet, tap and modern, which led to an examiner from the British Association of Teachers of Dancing nominating five girls to compete for a scholarship in Doncaster.

Saffron Broad, Ellie Fish, Holly Somerfield, Vida Kent and Lucy Daley competed against young people from across the UK for the scholarship at the beginning of the month.

Saffron was given a commendation for being in the judge’s top six in ballet.

Claire Kane, principal at the dance school, said: “The school is incredibly proud of all of its students.

“At both competitions they worked super hard and were professional and gracious to the end.

“A teacher cannot ask for anymore.”
