Captain Michael Shenton believes that Castleford Tigers’ trip to Lanzarote for warm weather training shows how the club has progressed on and off the field.

The Tigers players and coaching staff are escaping some of the worst of the British winter and heading for a training camp at Club La Santa on Sunday – and Shenton says it indicates the improvement in fortunes that they are able to do so.

He told the Express: “It’s been a while since we went on warm weather training.

“We’ve just been given our schedule and it’s going to be great.

“With the weather conditions over here it will be nice to get on some dry pitches and really get some work done that will benefit us in the first few games.

“It’s a massive sign of how the club has been progressing that we are going to Lanzarote. It shows we are doing well with the off field stuff and what we have been doing on it has helped the club move forward as well.

“The club’s treating us like a quality outfit now and we are getting all the things the players and the coaching staff are asking for. So it’s kind of time that we’ve got to ask the questions on the field even more and show that we are worth all the quality stuff we are getting now.”
