A DEDICATED caretaker has been acknowledged for the time and effort he has given to his school.
Harold Dawson has worked tirelessly at Stockingate Mill Junior School, South Kirkby, for 31 years and was given the prestigious award of employee of the year at the Pride Awards, run by Wakefield Council.
He was nominated by the school’s headteacher, Hazel Winter.
She said: “Harold is hardworking, reliable and is always approachable. Staff and pupils feel confident in the knowledge that he is always there where needed.
“He generates a warm atmosphere in the school by always being cheerful.”
Mr Dawson, who actually lives on the school grounds in a neighbouring bungalow was humbled to win the award.
He said: “I am delighted but I am just doing my job. I absolutely love it which is why I have stayed here for so many years, and hope to be here for many more.”
He is also a school governor and runs several after-school clubs.
Mr Dawson thanked all the staff at Stockingate Mill School.
He said: “This is not just an award for me but for everyone at the school.”
He received the award on Friday at Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield.
