Budding cooks are being asked to whip up some sweet treats for a baking contest in memory of a little girl who died from a rare genetic condition.
The birthday bake-off has been organised to commemorate what would have been Laila Milly McCormack’s fifth birthday.
There will be prizes for the best-tasting entry and the most creative cake as well as refreshments and a party.
The event will raise funds for the Laila Milly Foundation, set up by the tot’s parents Maya and Steve McCormack, after she was diagnosed with Aicardi Syndrome.
She died the day before her first birthday but the couple carried on with their plans to build a day nursery in Hemsworth for children with serious and complex illnesses. They raised more than £160,000 but the foundation still needs to raise funds for the facility’s day to day running costs.
The bake-off will take place from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, March 7, at the Kirkby Road nursery.
