Wakefield Council is congratulating local athletes competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Two local stars from the district have both competed for Team GB in aquatics over the weekend.
Alicia Blagg from Wakefield is part of the diving squad and ranked sixth place, with her diving partner Rebecca Gallantree, in the women’s synchronised 3m springboard diving.
Max Litchfield from Pontefract represented the country in the 400m swimming individual medley on Sunday. He narrowly missed out on a medal, ranking fourth.
Alicia Blagg and Max Litchfield are two of the 26 athletes from West Yorkshire competing in Rio.
Coun Denise Jeffery, Deputy Leader at Wakefield Council, said: “Congratulations to Alicia and Max. We’re very proud of these local sports stars and all they have achieved.
“They have worked incredibly hard and showed great dedication to get this far. We hope that they inspire many other local sportsmen and women to aspire to achieve similar goals.
“For those feeling inspired by the Games in Rio, there are many clubs and activities happening for everyone to get more involved in sport across the district.”
