Wakefield District Housing’s (WDH) community employment scheme offers people the chance to update their CVs, set up e-mail addresses and improve their interview techniques.

Community employment advisor Shabana Yousaf managed to find jobs for 13 people in November alone.

She said recently she has been busier than usual and has mainly been helping people create CVs and e-mail accounts.

She said: “A lot of people were struggling with CVs and setting up e-mail accounts: most companies ask for CVs to be sent by e-mail these days.

“It’s really good to watch people develop in front of you by looking at their transferable skills.

“It makes them feel special and gives them a huge confidence boost.

“One of my clients said she had never needed to set up an e-mail account in the past but being made redundant meant that she needed to set up an e-mail account and create a CV.

“She now has another job and has said that she will continue using her account.”

To book an appointment with Ms Yousaf visit WHD’s service access point on Exchange Street, South Elmsall, or call 08458 507507. Appointments are available in Hemsworth or South Elmsall on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
