A former factory worker celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday with a family party.
Mary Price was born in the city in 1916 and she attended Lawefield Lane School before studying shorthand typing and book keeping at Wakefield Technical College.
She began work at the age of 15 at Middletons bun factory and went on to take up several jobs including making firing pins for guns at an ammunitions factory during the Second World War. She later spent time in a dry cleaners and tailoring company.
Mrs Price married her husband George on November 26, 1938. He was awarded a British Empire Medal for his service in the war.
The couple went on to have two sons, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
