Buzz Lightyear, Iron Man, Spiderman and Ben 10 all turned up at a school in Hemsworth earlier this month.

Pupils from West End Academy dressed up as their favourite superheroes as part of a fun event aimed at encouraging them to get active.

The children met up at the Cedars Children’s Centre before cycling, scooting and walking to school.

The early morning fun was part of the Big Pedal 2014, where participating schools compete against each other to make the most journeys by bike or scooter in ten days. It was organised by charity Sustrans to challenge youngsters, parents and teachers to leave the cars at home.

The Big Pedal was launched in 2009 and is now the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooting competition. Youngsters also raised funds for Sustrans, a leading charity enabling people to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys.
