More jazzMilestones

ONLY weeks after its 800th gig, Wakefield Jazz will be in milestone mood again tonight.

This time, however, it’s all about the music – and specifically the sound of Miles Davis – thanks to the visit of Terry Seabrook’s Milestones to College Grove.

The band was specially created to celebrate the music of the incomparable Davis and will be playing tunes from Kind Of Blue, regarded by many as the greatest jazz album of all time.

Terry has also arranged several other Davis classics for the band’s national tour so the WJ audience can expect a cracking night of music delivered by some of the most accomplished players on the UK circuit.

Brighton-based Seabrook fronts the band from the piano stool, with the heavyweight backing of Alan Barnes on alto and baritone sax, Graeme Flowers (who’s played with Kylie Minogue and Jamie Cullum to name but two) on trumpet, Ian Price on tenor sax, Paul Whitten on bass and Spike Wells on drums.

Looking forward to the gig, WJ promoter Chris de Saram said: “The band this evening is set to please our audience with some brilliantly-executed familiar classics.

“It was a great start to the new season last week, with a superb set from Joe Stilgoe, and tonight should see things continuing in similar vein.”

The music starts at 8.30pm – though it’s always worth going early to see what they’ve cooked up in the clubhouse kitchen – and tickets are £12 on the door.
