YOUNG sailing enthusiasts from across the north of England gathered at West Riding Sailing Club at the weekend to compete in the regional finals of the RYA Honda Youth RIB Championships.
The club’s Wintersett reservoir, in Ryhill, hosted the event, sponsored by Honda and Ribcraft, which gives talented sailors the chance to progress to the national finals in Southampton in September.
Youngsters tried to secure the fastest time in their rigid inflatable boats around a set course to take top honours from the event.
Good weather greeted a strong turnout in Ryhill and the championships was split into two age groups, 8-12 and 13-16.
Otley Sailing Club’s Ellen Benn won the 8-12 year class and Will Bell, of Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club, won the 13-16 age class to progress to the national finals.
West Riding Club’s Robby Exley also impressed with a third-placed finish in the 8-12 year class, while Josh Pree, of Wakefield Sea Cadets, took third in the 13-16 age class.
