HEMSWORTH RUFC have started their break for the festive period and head coach Mark Wilson has declared himself pleased with how his side are doing midway through the season.
The Moxon Fields men signed off for their month-long interval with a close-fought 8-3 defeat at Halifax on Saturday (see page 37 for report).
But Wilson, who has helped guide Hemsworth up to second in Yorkshire Division 4 this term, can go into the break knowing his side are well positioned to achieve promotion.
“It was a tough game at Halifax and it was disappointing to lose but I’ve got to be pleased with where we’re at,” he said.
“It would have been nice to still be top of the table going into the break but the good thing is that it’s [promotion] still in our hands.
“We’re well positioned and we come back to a winnable game against Ossett Town so we can go into the break quite happy.”
Hemsworth dropped behind Leeds Medics and Dentists, who took top spot at the weekend.
It won’t be all rest for Hemsworth, who will continue to train and will play a friendly match this weekend, with the opposition yet to be confirmed.
They’ll also play a friendly match on Boxing Day, again with the opposition yet to be confirmed, but a possible match-up with Upton ARLFC has been mentioned. One half would be played of rugby league rules with the other half being rugby union rules.
