The wickets will be pitched for the start of the 2013 Pontefract and District Cricket League this weekend.

All eight divisions of the league get underway on Saturday after months of preparations and winter nets practice.

A tasty local derby match is in store in Division 1 as Frickley Colliery host near neighbours South Kirkby at their Westfield Lane base.

Colliery will be looking for an improved campaign and have recruited a number of new faces over the close season.

Craig Heppinstall has arrived in South Elmsall from Monk Bretton to boost Frickley’s bowling attack

An old face will be back at the club, too, in the shape of opening batsman Steve Secker ,and Colliery will be out to get off to a winning start this weekend.

Kirkby, too, will be looking for a bright start to the campaign after securing promotion back to the top flight last season.

The Millers walk men will look to continue their winning momentum from last season and take points from Saturday’s season opener.

Nostell St Oswald will look to bounce back from relegation last season when they open their Division 2 campaign at home against Knottingley Town.

St Oswald stormed to promotion from the second tier of the competition two years ago but failed to find a winning formula in the top flight last term.

Victory this weekend could act to build confidence around Garmill Lane as Nostell target a return to Division 1.

Hemsworth MW visit Askern Welfare.

In Division 3 Frickley Colliery 2nds visit Normanton St John’s while Glass Houghton start with a home match against Hensall.

Ryhill and Havercroft start their Division 4 campaign by welcoming Pledwick to Mulberry Place, while South Kirkby 2nds are also at home on Saturday against Sykehouse.

Hemsworth MW 2nds will be out to better their mid-table finish in Division 7 last season and will target an opening-day victory against Ferrybridge C PS.

In Division 8 Nostell St Oswald 2nds visit Rossington Main and Ryhill and Havercroft 2nds make the trip to Yorkshire Main.

All clubs will be keeping everything crossed for good weekend weather.
