UPTON took their fine league form into the BARLA National Cup to progress to the third round with a 16-10 victory at National Conference League Normanton Knights.

The Quarry Lane side were always in control against their higher-division opponents at Queen Elizabeth Drive and will now face a trip to Birstall Victoria or Dewsbury Moor in the third round.

Liam Hobson found a gap to cross for Upton’s opener before Richie Jaques added a second try before half-time, Steven Beal converting the latter to see the visitors 10-0 up at the break.

Beal and Steven Froggett saw tries chalked off on the resumption before Knights hauled themselves back into the contest with their first try of the match.

Ben Spencer crossed the whitewash to regain Upton’s two-try cushion, with Beal adding the extras.

The hosts did managed to pull another try back in the closing stages but it was too little too late as Upton secured their way into the next round.

The fourth round clash at either Birstall or Dewsbury is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 19.
