SOUTH Elmsall United U10s brought a busy weekend of action on the pitch to an end with victory at the Crofton JFC tournament.
Elmsall entered two teams into the competition at Crofton but the first team, despite several successes including a 5-0 victory over the hosts, were unable to progress to the semi-final stages.
Elmsall’s second team enjoyed better fortunes with a superb unbeaten record in their group games securing a semi-final meeting against Alverthorpe.
There was little between the teams and penalties were needed to decide who would win a place in the final.
It was Elmsall who held their nerve as Kailum Johnson became the shoot-out hero with two top-drawer saves before he scored a goal of his own to see his side through.
They had to win the tournament the hard way after going a goal behind but responded with four goals of their own to lift the trophy.
The success followed Saturday’s trip to the Ackworth tournament.
Elmsall’s first team were again unlucky in missing out on a semi-final place, despite playing well.
Elmsall’s second team progressed thanks to their success against local rivals Hemsworth Terriers but couldn’t repeat their penalty success as Alverthorpe put them to the sword in the last four. Kyle Rose, Marcus Rhodes, Callum James and Jay McDermott all impressed.
