HEMSWORTH mixed martial arts (MMA) ace Scott Askham is back in action on Saturday night in his first fight of the year.

The 23-year-old will also face his first international opponent when he takes on Dutch fighter Melvin van Suijdam at the Doncaster Dome.

Both fighters are undefeated as professionals. Askham has won all four of his fights since turning pro’ and van Suijdam has won three from three, meaning something has to give this weekend.

It’ll be one of Askham’s toughest fights yet but he’s well prepared to maintain his winning streak.

“Training has been awesome,” he said.

“Everything’s been going great. It’s been less intense this week in preparation for the fight but I’ll have one last session tonight (Tuesday) before I’m ready to go.”

Askham beat Huddersfield-based opponent Matthew Earnshaw by technical knockout in his last outing in December at the same venue and is eager to get back in the ring after hard work in training at his Matrix MMA base in Doncaster.

The weigh-in takes place at the Dome on Friday before Askham takes to the stage a day later for his fifth professional fight.

South Elmsall’s Neil Wain is also on the bill on Saturday.

Tickets are still available to support Scott and watch a full night’s MMA action at the Dome.

They’re priced at £30 and can be bought by contacting Scott direct on 07584 250727.
