LACK lustre Castleford Tigers suffered a heavy defeat in their "derby decider" against Wakefield Wildcats.
They were trailing from the 11th minute and were 16-0 down at the break before going on to lose 40-12 in their third Super League game of the year against their neighbours.
The Wildcats opened the scoring when Ben Cockayne burrowed over from close range, the try being confirmed by the in-goal judge, much to the displeasure of Tigers fans behind the posts.
Full-back Richard Mathers - on loan from Castleford - was put through a gap by Tim Smith's clever pass to add a second try five minutes later and Paul Sykes' goal made it 10-0.
Cas finally raised a decent attack, but it ended when Danny Orr knocked on after Josh Griffin had been tackled just short and had tried to keep the move going with a pass along the floor.
It was the Wildcats back on the attack after a Sykes 40-20 kick and they stretched the lead to 16 points as Smith forced his way over on a strong run from the 20-metre line then Sykes added the conversion.
Two tries in the first 10 minutes of the second half effectively sealed victory as Smith and Danny Kirmond combined to send Dean Collis over and Smith then put Kirmond in.
Tim Smith's kick bounced nicely for Lee Smith to score another try and Sykes' fifth goal made it 34-0.
Castleford finally got on the scoreboard on the hour with Paul Jackson going over from close range. Orr added the goal and was on target again on 73 minutes after Nick Youngquest had collected a second try for the hosts.
But the Wildcats had the final word when Mathers ran onto Tim Smith's pass to score his second try and Sykes made it six kicks from seven attempts.
