Castleford Tigers winger Justin Carney will appear before the RFL disciplinary committee today (Tuesday) charged with a Grade A offence of punching after being involved in an altercation with Wigan’s John Bateman in the seventh minute of last Sunday’s Super League game.
Australian Carney, who was sin-binned following the incident, could be banned for a maximum of one game.
Carney is no stranger to the RFL’s disciplinary process after being suspended three times in the 2013 season.
Wigan hooker Michael McIlorom has been charged with making a Grade C reckless high tackle on Tigers winger Kirk Dixon in the same game.
England hooker McIlorom’s tackle came in the 10th minute of his side’s loss to the Tigers.
Dixon was later confirmed to have broken his jaw and his coach Daryl Powell expressed his surprise that the incident was not put on report.
McIlorum has been given a Grade C charge and has until 11am today to submit an early guilty plea. He faces a two or three-game ban if the charge is validated.
