Castleford Tigers slipped to a 28-0 defeat at Wigan Warriors in dreadful conditions on Friday night.

Both teams struggled to play open rugby as rain fell throughout the game in front of 15,022 spectators at the DW Stadium.

The Warriors came out on top with tries by by Sam Burgess (35 minutes), Michael McIlorum (64), Dan Sarginson (70) and Dom Manfredi (75), plus six goals from Matty Smith, as they avenged their 42-14 defeat at Castleford in March.

The Tigers were ‘nilled’ for the second time this season after losing 22-0 at Huddersfield Giants, the week after they beat Wigan.

Junior Moors was held up over the line in the 19th minute and Michael Channing went close in the 45th minute but generally Castleford were kept firmly in check by Wigan’s defence, although they contributed to their downfall with frequent handling errors in the wet conditions.
