SENSATIONAL Hemsworth MW Girls U13s brought a superb season to a close by clinching a trophy double.
The Fitzwilliam Sports Complex side won the league title and also lifted the knockout shield this term.
The triumph marked a big shift in fortunes for Welfare after the side finished second-from-bottom in the league table last season.
It was a different story this term as the blossoming side lost just once throughout their successful campaign.
The girls, some of whom also play in the youth ranks at Doncaster Belles, lifted the shield thanks to a 2-0 victory over their Guiseley counterparts.
Boosted by their success, they went on to clinch the title thanks to a 1-0 win against Horsforth St Mary’s.
The team, who currently play in a 7-a-side league, will move up to 9-a-side competition next season and will be keen to repeat their success.
Manager Donna Crowthers and coaches Dawn Whitehead and Kayleigh Fitzpatrick helped lead the team to double glory.
The team will be travelling to Blackpool over the close season, thanks to fundraising through an Easter raffle, and will play a friendly with Fleetwood en route.
They’re also on the lookout for new sponsors to help with the purchase of a new kit and equipment.
