MATT Stogden was named player of the year at Kinsley Hotel Raiders’ end-of-season presentation night.
The Yorkshire League club held the evening at their Kinsley Hotel base and invited Wakefield Trinity Wildcats player Matthew Wildie to hand out the accolades to the winners.
New coaches Stuart Morris and Mick Riley were also welcomed to the club ahead of the new campaign in the Yorkshire League.
Matt Stogden won the big prize for his efforts for the club throughout last season and Dave Stogden took the man of steel gong.
Barry Briggs was named players’ player of the year, while Spud Taylor took home the club person of the year award.
The award for most improved player of the year went to the impressive Kyle Barnes.
The young player of the year honour was shared by Rob Brathwaite and Darren Green.
Shaun Land won the captain’s shield and also shared the coach’s player of the year award with Barry Briggs.
The Raiders endured a tough season in the CMS Yorkshire League last season, mainly due to player unavailability some weeks, and are looking to bolster their squad with new players for the forthcoming 2011-12 campaign.
Kinsley were relegated last season, finishing second-from-bottom in Division 2, but will be hoping to bounce straight back at the first attempt with a new and improved squad of players.
Pre-season training has already started at Hemsworth High School and players old and new are invited to attend to stake their claim for a place in next season’s squad.
Raiders meet at 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday and will step-up their training as the new season approaches.
Kinsley will be playing in Division 3 next season.
