Featherstone’s warm weather training in Spain last weekend was a big success says Rovers coach Daryl Powell.

The Rovers squad travelled to Boot Camp Spain in Alicante on Friday and returned home on Monday.

Powell (pictured) believes it has helped put Featherstone in great shape for Sunday’s opening Championship game against Leigh Centurions at Bigfellas Stadium (3pm).

“It was an excellent way for us to spend a weekend preparing for the new season.” he said.

“Friday and Saturday were heavily spent on rugby. The fields we trained on were excellent and the weather was pretty nice so it was a good environment.”

A Rovers contingent will invade Pontefract town centre this Saturday to promote Sunday’s match.

First team players, club mascot Bluebeard and community development manager Darren Payne will be in Pontefract between noon and 2pm distributing special flyers enabling a family of up to two adults and two children to attend the game for only £20.

Mr Payne said: “This will be a good opportunity for people to meet some of players on the eve of our first game of the season.

“We are always striving to improve our attendances and this is a great ticket initiative. We are looking forward to meeting everyone on Saturday and promoting our great club.”
