SOUTH Elmsall United Services and South Kirkby Social cricket teams were winners in the preliminary round of the Andy Hughes Utilities Cup.
Services booked their place in the next round with a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Nags.
Opener Martin Stringfellow made 51 before retiring for Nags while Ray Wellings (13), Graham Till (12) and Straun Hopkins (10 not out) weighed-in to put 119-4 onto the scoreboard.
Peter Phillips captured 2-8, Chad Gaskill 1-11 and Dave Rogerson 1-13.
After Elmsall opener Danny Turford had retired on 50, Chad Gaskill (17), Allan Howcroft (10) and Adam Rollin (15 not out), stood firm to post 120-2 off the first delivery of the 14th over.
Ray Wellings took 1-5 and Richie Harford 1-18.
It was a closer-run thing for South Kirkby Social as they defeated Top House by 21 runs.
Social were given a good start by Steve Lambert (21) and Richard Hames, who retired on 54, while Andrew Stringfellow (15) and George Lindsley (16 not out) also batted well in a total of 141-6.
Bowling well for Top House were Steve Lowery (2-10) and Gary Hatto (2-15).
Useful contributions from Tyler Browster (12), Steve Camm (28), Matthew Browster (20), Tom Collis (23) and Steve Lowery (16), put Top House in sight of their target, but Martin Helliwell’s 3-6 and Steve Lambert’s 2-10 brought the reply to an end on 120-7.
