WEST Riding Sailing Club’s Summer Series came to a close over the weekend with Abi Morgan, James Porter and Nick Turley winning their respecitive classes.

Morgan won the Laser class, while Porter topped the Solo class and Turley came out on top in the Mixed Dinghies class following the final round of races.

The competition, held at the club’s Ryhill base, consists of 26 races throughout July and August with competitors counting their best thirteen results.

This year’s series enjoyed strong winds, unusual for the time of year, but giving some exciting and spectacular sailing.

Eighteen Lasers competed but Morgan didn’t even have to race in the final round to claim top spot. David Hunter finished second and Neil Whittaker was third.

It was a closer contest in the Solo section, with Porter pipping second-placed Howard Frear by just a point to claim victory. John Gledhill, entering the competition after spending July away from the club, excelled to finish third.

Nineteen boats competed in the Mixed Dinghies fleet but it was the two Finns of Turley, in first, and second-placed Mike Woodhead that led the way. Dave Baxter completed the top three.
