A THRILLING local derby encounter between South Kirkby 2nds and Ryhill and Havercroft saw the latter win by one wicket to keep their promotion hopes alive in Division 4.
Kirkby are battling against relegation this season but pushed their visitors, sitting pretty at the right end of the table, all the way at Millars Walk on Saturday.
Ryhill looked in control after Patrick Mullins and Mark Perrin put in five-star performances with the ball.
Spinner Perrin snapped up 5-34 while Mullins almost matched his superb figures with 5-44 as the hosts were back in the pavilion for 163.
Daniel Turford (3), Jack Danks (27), Paul Trimmingham (25) and Dave Bowering (23) were the pick of the Kirkby batsmen.
It looked as though the visitors would stroll to another vital victory but the hosts refused to throw in the towel.
Dylan Moran wasn’t prepared to let the match slip away and he took an impressive 4-31 to give Kirkby hope.
Jack Danks also snared four wickets in his 4-48 as Ryhill lost wickets at an alarming rate.
A solid 64 by opener Steve Roberts provided a foundation for the visitors to build on and Josh Banks (34) and Les Turner (22) also shone.
Just one wicket remained as Ryhill held their nerve to reach victory with 164-9.
The victory keeps Ryhill in third, just a point behind second-placed Knottingley Town going into this weekend’s matches.
They’ll aim for more success when they host Hundhill Hall on Saturday, wickets pitched at 1.30pm.
