Featherstone’s three-match winning run in the Kingstone Press Championship ended with a 22-16 defeat at Doncaster.

Doncaster achieved a shock 36-24 win at Big Fellas Stadium the last time the teams met nine months ago and they rocked Rovers again on Sunday in front of a crowd of 1,317.

Featherstone recovered from 12-0 down after 28 minutes to lead 16-14 in the second-half but in-form Doncaster snatched victory with player-coach Paul Cooke’s winning try 10 minutes from time.

Tries by former Rovers player Dave Scott and Jay Pitts, both goaled by Stewart Sanderson gave Doncaster a great start.

Featherstone hit back shortly before half-time with the first of full-back Ian Hardman’s two tries.

Sanderson kicked a 46th minute penalty to put Doncaster 14-6 ahead but Rovers replied 10 minutes later with Hardman’s second touchdown and Gareth Moore’s second conversion.

Greg Worthington’s 63rd minute try put Rovers ahead for the first time but Doncaster came out on top when the wily Cooke hoodwinked Featherstone’s defence to grab his crucial try that was goaled by Sanderson who added a 78th minute penalty goal.
