FEATHERSTONE Rovers failed in their bid to lift the Northern Rail Cup in their first appearance in the final when they were beaten 21-12 by Halifax at Blackpool.

Rovers, who lost to Fax in extra time in both the 2010 Grand Final and last season's Northern Rail Cup semi-finals, were edged out in a pulsating clash.

Featherstone's 11-match running ended in a game that could have gone either way when the sides were locked at 12-12 mid-way through the second-half.

Liiam Finn and Sam Smeaton (pictured) were Featherstone's try scorers and Finn kicked two goals.

Halifax's tries came from Anthony Thackeray, Sam Barlow and Steve Tyrer who also kicked four goals. Craig Ashall chipped in with a drop goal.
