Rovers boss will not underestimate Barrow

FEATHERSTONE coach Daryl Powell will check on the fitness of prop Anthony England (pictured) and winger Tom Hodson before finalising his team for Sunday’s Kingstone Press Championship game against Barrow Raiders at Big Fellas Stadium.

England (knee) and Hodson (hamstring) both missed last weekend’s 22-20 victory at Dewsbury Rams.

“We were pretty skinny in terms of numbers last Sunday because in addition to Hodson and England we were also without Tim Spears, Mick Haley and Sam Smeaton. Liam Mackay wasn’t fit and Kyle Briggs didn’t train with us on Saturday because he’s been ill,” said Powell.

Spears was due to make his comeback after a shoulder operation in last night’s under 20s friendly against York City Knights but the match was postponed because of bad weather.

Powell will not underestimate promoted Barrow who have lost their opening two games against Hunslet and Doncaster.

“Barrow have been promoted and it takes some time to get used to the level but sooner or later they’ll get used it and we’ve got to make sure it’s not this week,” he added.

“It’s about constantly setting standards for us. We’ve started the season pretty well and even though we didn’t play great at Dewsbury last Sunday we won the game.
