FRICKLEY Athletic manager Peter Rinkcavage believes his side were worthy winners in their FA Cup second qualifying round replay against Harrogate Town last night.
The Blues won 2-1 at the CNG Stadium to book a third qualifying round date at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, October 15.
Stuart Ludlam hit the winner in the second minute of stoppage time but the Blues boss believes his side could have secured their progression sooner.
“It was a fantastic result for us at Harrogate Town on Tuesday night and we absolutely deserved to get through to the next round,” he said.
“I don’t think anyone can say that we weren’t the better side over the two games.
“On Saturday I thought they had the better of the first 20 minutes but after that I thought it was just one way traffic.
“They set off quite well and we gave a sloppy goal away but we got back into it and we could have gone on to win it at the weekend.”
Some may have felt the Blues missed their chance at beating higher-division opposition following the Tech5 Stadium stalemate, but Rinkcavage was still confident in his men for the replay in North Yorkshire.
“I wasn’t really worried about going there because, although they’re a division above, we’ve been doing quite well away from home and fancied our chances,” he said.
“We did brilliantly, especially with men out and having to field quite a young side.
“Young Brad Grayson in particular did brilliantly playing up front on his own, but it was very much a team performance that saw us through.
“I felt both sides were quite even but we just wanted it more and that showed. We were prepared to go that extra mile to get into the next round.”
Rinkcavage will now turn his attentions back to Evo-Stik Premier League action this Saturday when they travel to high-flying Hednesford Town.
