Castleford Tigers star Luke Gale stayed in hospital overnight after Sunday’s game against Warrington Wolves, but has been cleared of serious injury.

Gale went to hospital after feeling distressed following a third minute tackle by Warrington’s Ben Westwood that left him flat out on the Mend-A-Hose Jungle pitch.

After treatment Gale got up to play on, but had to be substituted as head coach Daryl Powell said he did not know what was going on.

Powell is relieved his player is now recovering and explained: “His CT scan has come back normal, so he should be all right.”

The Westwood “tackle”, which was described as “disgraceful” by Powell, was missed by referee Phil Bentham and his assistants, who did not even award a penalty, but has been picked up by the RFL’s match review panel.

Westwood has been charged with Grade B reckless striking with a shoulder/arm and faces a ban of up to two games if found guilty tonight.
