Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell has praised his side’s defensive display after they edged out top four play-off rivals Warrington Wolves 17-16 at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.
The win briefly lifted the Tigers up to fourth place in the Super League table before Huddersfield Giants regained the spot the following night with a win over Catalans Dragons - Castleford’s next opponents.
“It was a bit crazy at the end,” said Powell after late scores brought Warrington back into the game before a Liam Finn drop-goal clinched the points for Cas.
“I thought we had a bit of a hand in getting them back into it and they’ve got enough quality players to take advantage, but for sheer guts and effort the players were superb.
“They belted us good and proper the last time we played them. They were just too good for us, but defensively we were superb and worked so hard for each other.”
