FRICKLEY Athletic missed out on a place in the Doodson Sport Cup final when they bowed out at the semi-final stage in dramatic fashion at Rushall Olympic on Tuesday night.

James Ashmore missed a last-minute penalty that would have given the Blues a 2-1 lead and the hosts went on to win the tie in extra-time.

It all started well for the South Elmsall side when Brad Grayson fired them ahead just four minutes in.

Frickley played well for the most part but were pegged back six minutes into the second half when Craig Bannister levelled for the hosts.

Frickley and Ashmore missed the chance to progress to the final through the missed penalty and, although Rushall had a man sent-off in giving away the spot-kick, it lifted them for extra-time.

And Christian Dacres hit the Olympic winner in the 100th minute to see them through to the final and a clash with either North Ferriby United or Kendal Town.
