Castleford Tigers gave children who have never been to a game before the opportunity to make their first ever match even better with the once in a lifetime ‘My Home Debut’ experience at last Friday’s win over Hull FC.

The club welcomed Ryan Cale (aged 2), Evan Jay Robinson (4), Robby Dunnill (5), Millie Melvin (5), Lewis Joynes (5), Jack Thompson (6), Megan Marston (6), Cieara Coleman (6), Kimberley Allen (11) and Jessica Allen (15) and their families to their first ever Castleford Tigers match.

They all enjoyed a tour of the dressing rooms before the match with Tigers chief executive Steve Gill, mascots JT and Tiger Man and head coach Daryl Powell, who gave them a special team talk.

The home debutants ran out of the players’ tunnel, scored a try at the Wheldon Road End and received a certificate and matchday programme as mementos to remember their day by. To top it all off they had a lap of honour before kick-off in front of thousands of home and away fans.

Tigers head coach Daryl Powell said: “This is the second time that the club has hosted the My Home Debut experience and it’s such a fantastic idea.

“It’s a great thing for the club to do – we are committed to growing the club’s support and new fans are a key focus.

“I spoke to all the debutants before the match and picked out one of them to get him all geared up for the match in Ben Davies’ shirt, who was also making his home debut.

“It was quite a special day because it was my home debut too and it will certainly be one that I will remember – hopefully the children who took part on Friday will remember their home debut and seeing behind the scenes for the rest of their lives too.”
