WEST Bradford GC held a nearest the pin competition with a difference - it was played indoors.

The March competition was 'staged' at the 146-yard eighth hole at Teton Pines and Steve Warner was closest with his shot, which finished just 2ft 5ins from the pin.

At exactly 12.45pm, in the club's 125th year, immediate past captain George Pye invited the 117th captain of The Bradford Golf Club to drive off using the club's ceremonial ball.

The drive in was sandwiched by two shotgun starts to a three-man team event, two scores to count - one start at 8.30am and the other at 1pm.

Matt Skelton, Paul Mason and Carl Procter took first place with an excellent score of 84pts, just good enough to relegate Ahmed Al-Hariri, Richard Taylor and Paul Ayre to runners-up spot, a point back.

Third place went to Howard Astin, Toby Wood and Jaz Athwal with 82pts and in fourth, with 81pts, were Richard Davison, Andrew Cooper and John Whiteley.

All four of the top teams teed-off after the morning start, while in the afternoon section Steve Thomas had cause to celebrate after scoring a hole in one with a sweetly struck eight-iron on the third hole.

Bridlington GC raised almost £1,700 for captain Jim Howbridge's charities, including Sport Relief, courtesy of Golf Challenges and a charity auction.

Howbridge allowed himself to be waxed live in the clubhouse after all committee members agreed to donate £20 each.

Team O'Neill are the winners of the Barker Trophy Winter Alliance Series 2015-2016 after convincingly retaining the title they won last year.
