EASTER proved to be a family occasion as husband and wife pairings took the honours in Huddersfield GC's 18-hole better ball Stableford, the first event of the new social golf season at Fixby.

Nigel and Cherrie Myers triumphed with 43pts, two points ahead of Robert and Phyllis Hall. Ian and Amanda Hill placed third with 40.

More than 50 competitors battled it out in wet and windy conditions.

Players enjoyed a three-course dinner following the golf after which outgoing captain Nick Ledgard thanked Adrian and Pat Poole for taking over the responsibility for organising the social golf calendar from predecessors Stephen and Susan Lum.

Hanging Heaton GC's Charity Shield was won by John Mathew and Barry Thompson with a score of 59, two shots better than John Mathew and Barry Thompson.

Chris Swift and James Richardson were a shot further back and took third place on count back.

Hornsea GC's ladies' medal saw Cath Caley prevail in Division One (87-17-70), four shots clear of Maggie Gee (89-15-74).

Margaret Moore was the winner in Division Two 2 (96-22-74) by an overwhelming nine shots from Sarah Ahearne (119-36-83).

The mid-week Stableford was won by Lee Guest on 37pts, one ahead of Ron Newey.

Saturday's Pro’s Stableford saw Danny Norton a comfortable winner with 42pts, Ron Wainman three adrift in second place.

Sunday's Individual Stableford, incorporating the Mark Hurn Trophy, was won with a more modest 34pt tally from Dave Blanchard, who took it on count back from Andy Giles.

Junior March Stableford winner was Sam Clubley on 32pts, Will Marshall placing second a point back.
