South Kirkby 2nds gave their Pontefract League Division 4 survival hopes a boost thanks to victory over basement side Pledwick on Saturday.

Martyn Crookes (61) and Ryan Johnson (45) led the way with the bat as Kirkby chalked-up 162-3 in reply to Pledwick’s 158-7 to secure eight points that ease their drop fears.

Kirkby will hope to take their winning momentum into Saturday’s home match against Bentley Colliery.

It was also a good day for South Kirkby 1sts as Nick Percival smashed 110 to guide his side to victory at Rothwell.

Percival’s knock helped Kirkby to 206-7 and Max Herigate snared 4-41 as the hosts were stopped short on 168.

Kirkby visit third-placed Streethouse on Saturday.
