Pontefract Racecourse scoops top award

Pontefract racecourse has won a prestigious national award for customer service.

The course won the customer service award at the Race Course Association’s (RCA) 2014 showcase and awards evening at Haydock Park Racecourse on Thursday.

This award saw entries come in from racegoers around the country nominating examples of great customer service that they have encountered on a British racecourse.

The showcase awards celebrate excellence and innovation on all areas of the racecourse and the independent judging panel were quick to single out a nomination entered for Pontefract from a racegoer who felt that the team had gone the extra mile to accommodate him.

Pontefract Racecourse manager Norman Gundill said: ‘I am absolutely delighted that we have won this award.

“ It’s a wonderful tribute to everyone who works at Pontefract and a just reward for all the hard work and dedication they all give to the racecourse..

”I am particularly pleased for Richard Hammill, our assistant manager, who masterminds much of our customer relations and marketing.”

RCA chairman Ian Barlow said: ‘There is no better award than one made by your customers. So many congratulations to Pontefract who have consistently improved their customer facilities over many years and the team who evidently offer the highest levels of customer service.”

The showcase awards also saw the Arena Racing Company, Cartmel, Goodwood, Kempton Park and Musselburgh as winners with Plumpton and York winning the Groundstaff Champion and the @RCAShowcase #TopSpot Awards respectively.

Ascot Racecourse was named overall showcase champion, also winning the events and food and beverage categories.

The evening’s award ceremony followed a daytime programme of seminars and idea sharing, with guest speakers from a number of organisations.
