YORKSHIRE champion Jamie Bower and his county team-mate Jonathan Thomson have been included in a new-look England Golf men’s squad for 2015-16.

And Shipley's Will Whiteoak is among five new players in the nine-strong England men’s A squad.

Meltham player Bower narrowly missed out on making it an all-Yorkshire final in the English Men’s Amateur championship at Alwoodley back in July when he was defeated in a sudden-death play-off in the semi-finals.

While Sheffield's Joe Dean went on to win the title, Bower gained consolation soon after when he achieved one of his season’s targets by receiving an England call-up and went on to make his senior international bow in the Home Internationals.

Nineteen-year-old Thomson helped Yorkshire regain the EGU Northern Counties League title during the summer.

He also tied fourth in the European amateur championship, shared third place in the Duncan Putter and was sixth in the Brabazon Trophy.

In the latter, helped by a third-round 66 at Notts (Hollinwell), he won the George Henriques salver awarded to the leading Great Britain & Ireland player aged under 20.

Whiteoak helped Yorkshire win the EGU Northern Counties alongside Bower and Thomson.

Teenage champions Bradley Moore and Marco Penge are also in the recently announced England Golf men’s squad.

They are among seven newcomers to the squad after a number of players switched to professional ranks. The England women’s squad includes seven members of the previous line-up, among them English amateur champion Bronte Law and English stroke play winner Sammie Giles.
