Evening race meetings have always been extremely popular at Pontefract and the first of three this season is 80s Night on Friday.

With 2,000 premier badges and 2,000 grandstand and paddock enclosure tickets available at 80s prices for those booking in advance, it’s likely to be a hugely popular meeting.

Premier entrance will cost just £10 and grandstand and paddock entrance only £5 if booked in advance.

Entrance on the night will be full price.

On the night, there’ll be spot prizes for the best 80s fancy dress, as well as the 80s glitterball disco after racing hosted by Dixie from Heart’s Breakfast Show where there’ll be a range of 80s drinks at 80s prices.

The meeting also kicks off the racecourse’s new ‘designated driver’ promotion.

At every evening race meeting in 2015, Pontefract will give all drivers a couple of vouchers for a free soft drink courtesy of Harrogate Spring Water.

These can be redeemed from stations around the enclosures.

On the track, the highlight is the six furlong £20,000 EBF Youngsters Conditions Stakes.

With an impressive list of previous runners (including multiple Group winner Caspar Netscher), it always attracts some precocious juveniles looking to stake their claim for Royal Ascot glory the following month.

Constant Security Services provide the uniformed officers on duty at racedays on Pontefract and they sponsor two races on the card – a handicap over one mile, four furlongs and a sprint over six furlongs.

Course specialist Teetotal won the sprint in 2014 and may be back to try for his fourth course win.

Local computer and network specialists Alamo Business Systems sponsor the Fillies Handicap on the card for the fourth year.

Always a competitive affair, there’s likely to be a huge cheer from the crowd as the runners head for home.

The final race on the card celebrates racegoer David Simons 40th birthday.

The race threw up an apt winner in 2014 when Boy In The Bar scooted clear to send favourite backers home happy.

The following meeting is the second evening meeting in 2015 – West Yorkshire Festival Night on Monday, June 8.

Celebrating local events and local businesses, anyone with an event to promote wishing to come along on the night should contact the racecourse directly.
