Sports stars recoginised at tenth Wakefield District Sports Awards

THE Merrie City proved once again that it has no shortage of sporting talent as sports stars from around the district were rewarded for their efforts at the Wakefield District Sports Awards.

A host of sports stars gathered at the Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield, on Monday night to be recognised for their achievements over the course of the year.

And the Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express had two sports stars recognised on the night, which was hosted by BBC Look North's Harry Gration.

Hemsworth squash star Katie Smith was recognised for her efforts and achievements in the Female Junior Sportsperson of the Year section, while Frickley Boxing Academy coach Joseph Loftus also won an award in the Coach of the Year category.

Wakefield Wildcats head coach John Kear was special guest at the event and he handed out the awards on the night.

We have a full round-up of all the winners in this week's Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express.

See this week's Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express Sport for the round-up, as well as all the sports news from around the area.
