Spears makes Featherstone comeback

Featherstone Rovers second-rower Tim Spears will make his comeback tomorrow evening (Thursday).

The former Castleford Tigers, Dewsbury Rams and Batley Bulldogs forward (pictured) will play in an under 20s pre-season friendly against Halifax at Big Fellas Stadium (8pm kick-off).

It will be Spears’ first appearance since he underwent shoulder surgery during the close season.

Rovers coach Daryl Powell said: “Tim has been out for a fair while and he’s looking pretty keen to get back on the field so it’s a good opportunity for him to show us where he is at.”

Rovers prop Mick Haley (broken foot) and centre Sam Smeaton (knee) are also on the road to recovery.

“Mick Haley is not too far away and it will probably be early April before Sam Smeaton is available,” added Powell.
